CVS - Bulgaria celebrates the Earth Day

04/30/2010 At the end of April this year CVS-Bulgaria took part in the largest service event in the world - Global Youth Service Day. Established in 1988, GYSD is now celebrated in over 100 countries. It encourages children and youth to get involved in the world's most critical issues and to improve the communities they are part of.
This year the Global Youth Service Day coincided with the Earth Day (the 22nd of April). A Mini Grant Competition for an ecological event was held among organizations from South-Eastern Europe and CVS-Bulgaria became one of the five winners with its project "Use imagination - the world is your creation!". The event was intended to emphasize the importance of reusing materials and it was directed at kids from "St. Ivan Rilski" Public institution for children. A group of nine volunteers prepared a workshop and together with the kids created different kinds of interesting and funny objects - flowers made of straws, pencil holders made of used jars and decorated with dough. A little table was decorated with old newspapers as well. At the end of the workshop volunteers and kids played games together and everyone had fun.

Volunteers for the International Sofia Film Fest 2010

02/11/2010 March 5th is the starting date of the 14th Sofia International Film Fest 2010 (SIFF). We are happy to announce that CVS is looking for volunteers to help with the organisation of the Fest. The SIFF takes place between 01.03 and 21.03. The work includes: support at the entrance of the different film shows (checking the tickets and handing out flyers), work at the office of the SIFF, help with the organisation of the events (press-conferences, award ceremonies, parties). The working hours depend on the Fest schedule and vary from 1pm to 10pm every day. The work will be organised according to a preliminary schedule suitable to the volunteers.
Do you want to look behind the scenes of the SIFF 2010, to communicate with famous persons from the cinema world, to see interesting movies with high quality and, last but not least, to attend events at the SIFF absolutely for free as a part of the team?
If the answer is YES and you have the interest, availability to work in the mentioned time period and you are a responsible person, don’t hesitate to fill in the contact information (in the attached file) and send it to cvs.mira@gmail.com or call 0888 75 16 84 (Mira).

Creation of a volunteer network in Bulgaria

12/17/2009 To the attention of the media and all organizations that are motivated to work with volunteers in Bulgaria! Representatives of 25 organizations gathered in Sofia on December 11, 2009 to establish a national network that will work on developing volunteering as sign of active citizenship. CVS-Bulgaria in cooperation with Bluelink Information Network is working on the creation of a volunteer database. The project is supported by a grant from the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe.

International Volunteer Day Celebration

12/01/2009 December 5th was declared an International Volunteer Day in 1985 by the United Nations. Since then it has been celebrated in more than 150 countries all over the world.

CVS-Bulgaria will celebrate this event for the fifth time with many joy and surprises. So, join us this Saturday at 19:00 in the National school for fine arts 'Iliya Petrov' (bul. 'Vasil Levski' № 62). We have prepared dances, games, home-made food, charity lottery, African music, capoeira... and many more!

Forum on volunteering “Together is Better”

12/01/2009 CVS-Bulgaria is organizing a one-day forum on volunteering “Together is Better” that will take place on 11 December 2009 at the park-hotel “Moskva” in Sofia. The main topic of the forum will be the presentation of the results of our work so far on the creation of a database for volunteer organizations and volunteers in Bulgaria.

The event is part of the project “Together is better – developing and efficient network for volunteering” implemented in partnership with BlueLink Information Network and with the kind support of the CEE Trust.
